On December 27, the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Alexander Fomin was scheduled to meet with the military attachés of the embassies of NATO member countries. On the same day, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that the proposals on security guarantees put forward by Russia had been heard in the United States, Ukraine and NATO countries.
A day earlier, a member of the Federation Council Alexei Pushkov noted that at a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council, which will be held on January 12, “Russia will be alone against 30 member countries of the alliance,” which are opposed to Moscow to varying degrees.
According to the politician, the position of the United States, acting as the main force of NATO, will try to influence their many partners in the alliance. Therefore, Russia first of all needs clear agreements with the American side.
Prior to that, on December 24, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, announced that Moscow had received an offer from the North Atlantic Alliance to hold a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council in January 2022. She reaffirmed the Kremlin’s readiness for a direct dialogue with NATO on the Russian draft agreements on security guarantees.
