Donald Tusk rules out a candidacy and speaks in favor of a specific person as a possible candidate of his Civic Coalition.
Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk does not want to run in the presidential election in his country next year. “I say this clearly: No, I will not run in the presidential election,” Tusk told TVP Info.
He has so much to do in his role as prime minister that a few months or years would not be enough. Tusk had already run for president in 2005 and lost to Lech Kaczynski of the national conservative PiS. Since then, there have been repeated rumors about a possible renewed attempt by the 67-year-old from Gdansk.
Poland will elect a new president in the summer of 2025, although the exact date has not yet been set. Incumbent Andrzej Duda, who comes from the ranks of the PiS, is not allowed to run again after two terms in office.
Tusk also said who he would like to see as the presidential candidate of his liberal-conservative Civic Coalition next year. He would be happy if Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski tried again, said the head of government. Trzaskowski narrowly lost to Duda in the last presidential election.
