Secret services: Mobilization fake in Poland: Russian hackers suspected

News is spreading in Poland that 200,000 citizens are supposedly to be drafted for military operations in Ukraine. Is Moscow behind the false report?

Following a false report about an alleged partial mobilization in Poland, the domestic secret service is investigating whether the state news agency PAP has become the target of a Russian cyber attack.

“Everything indicates that we are dealing with a cyberattack that was controlled from the Russian side,” said Digitalization Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski in Warsaw. The false report, which was widely circulated and later withdrawn, stated that Prime Minister Donald Tusk had ordered a partial mobilization for July 1. According to this, 200,000 Poles, both former soldiers and civilians, were to be deployed to Ukraine.

“Russian strategy of destabilization”

Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote on Platform X: “Another very dangerous hacker attack clearly illustrates the Russian strategy of destabilization on the eve of the European elections.”

Poland is one of the most important military supporters of Ukraine, which is being attacked by Russia. The EU and NATO country also plays an important role as a logistical hub for Western aid to Kyiv. Russia therefore views Poland as an enemy.

Polish government spokesman Jan Grabiec immediately denied the information. “The alleged PAP report about the mobilization is false,” he wrote on the X platform. The PAP stated that it was not the source of the text. “The report did not come from the agency and was not written or sent by PAP journalists. The reports have been cancelled.”
