“If there were a federal election now…” The Sunday question has gone well for the AfD in recent months. But now it has suffered a setback – the worst result since March 2023.
According to a survey, the AfD is once again losing voter support. In a survey published on Tuesday by the Insa Institute for the “Bild” newspaper, 15.5 percent (0.5 percentage points less) of respondents said they would vote for the AfD if there were a federal election on Sunday.
This means that the party falls behind the SPD in second place, which, as in the previous survey, is at 16 percent. For the AfD, the current value in the Insa survey is the worst value since March 2023.
Worst poll result for the AfD since March 2023
The CDU remains the strongest party with 30.5 percent. The Greens and FDP are at 12 and five percent respectively. The Left Party has 3.5 percent, and 7.5 percent of respondents would vote for the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW). The institute surveyed a total of 2,002 citizens between May 31 and June 3.
However, election polls are always subject to uncertainty. Among other things, declining party ties and increasingly short-term voting decisions make it more difficult for opinion research institutes to weight the data collected. In principle, polls only reflect the opinion at the time of the survey and are not predictions of the election outcome.
