A member of the AfD is injured with a knife in Mannheim. The police and public prosecutor’s office are now providing details of the incident.
After the attack on an AfD politician in Mannheim, the 25-year-old suspect was taken to a psychiatric hospital, according to investigators. When he was arrested, there were clear signs of mental illness, police and prosecutors announced on Wednesday. “According to the current status of the investigation, there is no concrete evidence that the suspect recognized during the attack that the victim was an AfD politician.”

The accused is said to have damaged and stolen several election posters on Tuesday evening. According to the statement, witnesses alerted the police. The AfD politician also noticed what was happening, pursued the suspect and arrested him, the police said. The 25-year-old then allegedly injured the pursuer with a cutter knife. The victim’s injuries were not life-threatening and he was taken to hospital.
The suspected perpetrator fled after the incident, investigators said. Police were able to arrest him. He offered no resistance.
