At the end of June, the AfD wants to meet for a federal party conference in Essen. But the city has terminated the rental contract for the event hall. – The AfD wants to sue.
The city of Essen has terminated the rental contract for the AfD federal party conference at the end of June in the Grugahalle. The termination of the contract has taken place, a spokeswoman for the city announced. There are no objections from the district government, and all questions with the municipal authorities have been clarified.
The AfD declared that it wanted to enforce the holding of its federal party conference through the courts. “Of course we will sue. And we will do everything we can. All the necessary steps have already been taken,” AfD federal spokesman Tino Chrupalla told “Bild”.
The city of Essen and the trade fair company have been looking for months for ways to prevent the AfD federal party conference at the end of June in the Grugahalle.
Edition of slogans
Most recently, the city council had asked the AfD to commit to not using any criminal Nazi slogans during the party conference. Violations would be subject to a fine of 500,000 euros. The city had set the AfD a deadline to submit the declaration, otherwise the rental contract would be terminated “immediately and without notice,” according to the council’s resolution.
After the AfD’s requested declaration was not received by the end of the set deadline, the city issued a notice of termination. According to the city, the notice could not be issued initially because the AfD had contacted the Düsseldorf district government as the responsible municipal supervisory authority.
The AfD wants to elect a new executive board at its federal party conference on the last weekend in June, among other things. Numerous organizations have announced their opposition to the meeting. The police are expecting tens of thousands of participants in the counter-demonstrations – they would be the largest protests in the city for a long time.
