On Thursday, December 30, a telephone conversation will take place between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Joe Biden. This was announced on December 29 by CNN, citing the press secretary of the US National Security Council Emily Horn. The information was later confirmed by the press secretary of the Russian leader Dmitry Peskov.
Horn said Biden believes direct dialogue at the highest level is essential.
During the upcoming conversation, he intends to discuss bilateral talks between Moscow and Washington, which will be held on January 10.
Horn added that the US administration is conducting extensive negotiations with Europe, coordinating a common approach to the alleged increase in the Russian military presence on the border with Ukraine.
“President Biden has spoken to leaders across Europe, and US administration officials have multilaterally interacted with NATO, the European Union and the OSCE,” she said.
Peskov said that the telephone conversation will take place late in the evening.
On the eve of the US State Department spokesman Ned Price said that Washington, together with its European allies, is ready to discuss RF proposals on security, but some of them will be unacceptable for the US and Europe.
Russian-American talks on strategic stability and security issues will take place on January 10. Thereafter, on January 12, the issue of European security and the situation in Ukraine will be discussed at a meeting of the NATO-Russia Council and on January 13 with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
On December 17, the Russian Foreign Ministry published draft agreements between Russia and the United States and NATO on security guarantees. It follows from the documents that the alliance should refuse to conduct any military activity on the territory of Ukraine and other states of Eastern Europe, Transcaucasia and Central Asia.
