Suspected Palestinians from Gaza are being held in the Sde Teiman camp in the Negev desert under inhumane conditions. This was revealed by the Israeli organization “Doctors for Human Rights”. A leading employee reports.
The journey from Gaza to Sde Teiman does not take long. It is only 28 kilometers from the border through the reddish Negev desert to the prison camp. But very few inmates see any of it. Not the path through the desert, not the cage-like cells. Not the soldiers who later interrogate them for days. And – reports suggest – mistreat them with beatings and electric shocks. The eyes of the prisoners from Gaza are blindfolded for weeks. Sde Teiman – also the name of what is now Israel’s most notorious prison camp – is something that very few people know when they are released.
