With a spy scandal and comments about the SS, Maximilian Krah has brought the AfD into disrepute among European right-wingers. Now he has been excluded from the delegation in the EU Parliament – and is not sparing with criticism.
After being excluded from the AfD delegation in the new European Parliament, the controversial MP Maximilian Krah does not want to join a right-wing faction on his own for the time being. Krah told the “Politico” portal (Tuesday). “My colleagues believe that they will return to the ID and that they have better chances if they do without me. I think that is a mistake, but I respect that.” ID, short for Identity and Democracy, is a faction of right-wing populist and nationalist parties.
Krah said he would watch this experiment from an observer’s position. “I can tell you now: it will fail. After that, the cards will be reshuffled.”
The AfD was excluded from the ID parliamentary group shortly before the European elections. The reasons for this included controversial statements by the AfD’s top candidate Krah about the SS and a China espionage scandal involving one of Krah’s employees.
Maximilian Krah doesn’t skimp on advice for the AfD
Krah went on to say that the AfD should only look for a new group in the EU Parliament together. There are many new, right-wing parties in the parliament. “They are young, they are creative. They are by no means sleazy. And we should actually have the courage to extend our hand to those parties that are trying to get close to the AfD.”
The future AfD EU parliamentarians voted on Monday for a motion not to include the top candidate Krah in the delegation. This means that 15 AfD politicians will soon be sitting in the new European Parliament, but the delegation will currently only have 14 members. The AfD received 15.9 percent in the European elections in Germany on Sunday.
