Great Britain has set a new daily record of new corona infections. Stricter rules are not planned – at least in England. Things are different in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
The number of new corona infections in Great Britain has risen to 189,213. The authorities reported another daily record on Thursday evening. This includes the new infections in Wales over the past two days.
Another 332 people died within 28 days of proven coronavirus infection. The numbers include deaths from December 24-29 that were delayed due to the holidays.
In England, the responsible British government is not planning any stricter rules despite the rapid spread of omicrons. Masks have to be worn in local transport as well as in shops, theaters, cinemas and museums – but not in pubs and restaurants. The 3G rules apply to discos and major events. The regulations in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are much stricter; the regional governments decide here.
