Austria’s Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens) is acting against the declared will of her Chancellor Karl Nehammer of the Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP). And is thereby risking a government crisis of the first order in the Alpine republic. She deserves respect for this, because the minister put her own conscience at the European level above political allegiance in her own country.
