The AfD has introduced a motion of censure against left-wing Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow in the state parliament of Thuringia – and put Höcke as an opposing candidate. Now the state parliament has voted.
The Thuringian state parliament has rejected a vote of no confidence introduced by the AfD against Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (left). In Erfurt, 22 MPs voted for the motion in a secret ballot. That corresponds to the number of seats in the AfD. A two-thirds majority of 60 votes would have been required for a successful vote. All other parties had previously stated that they would reject the move.
Voting behavior of the CDU controversial
The announced voting behavior of the CDU parliamentary group had previously caused controversy. She does not want to take part in the vote – the MPs want to stay in their seats. CDU parliamentary group leader Mario Voigt justified this step with the fact that the CDU did not participate in the “tricks” and “games” of the AfD. “The most visible sign that the CDU parliamentary group can set is that the CDU parliamentary group does not participate in this farce that the AfD parliamentary group is initiating here,” said Voigt. Representatives of other parliamentary groups expressed incomprehension that the CDU MPs do not want to vote no for a candidate like Höcke.
Höcke right-wing extremist and completely ineligible
The State Office for the Protection of the Constitution classifies the Thuringian AfD as proven extremist. Höcke is considered to be the co-founder of the AfD’s “wing”, which has since been formally dissolved and classified by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution as a right-wing extremist.
In the state parliament debate before the vote, representatives of all other parties rejected the request and spoke of an attempt by the AfD to ridicule and destabilize the country and democracy with a “smear comedy”. Höcke is a right-wing extremist and completely ineligible.
