Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a telephone conversation with Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan, confirmed his intention to further intensify mutually beneficial partnership between the countries. This was reported on January 2 in the Kremlin.
“Having exchanged congratulations on the occasion of the coming New Year, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan summed up the main results of bilateral cooperation and reaffirmed their commitment to further intensify the mutually beneficial partnership between Russia and Turkey,” the statement reads.
During the talks, in particular, international topics were also touched upon, including the well-known proposals for the development of legally formalized agreements guaranteeing the security of Russia, the situation in the Transcaucasus, issues of the Syrian and Libyan settlement
Earlier, on December 22, Russia, Iran and Turkey confirmed their determination to support the work of the Syrian Constitutional Committee. A joint statement by the countries said that Israel’s use of civilian aircraft to cover up aggression in Syria violated international rules.
On December 6, the Russian and Turkish military conducted another successful joint patrol in the province of Haseke near the city of Qamishli in northeastern Syria, according to the agreement between Putin and Erdogan in Sochi in 2019.
The press service of the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the Russian convoy, which included armored vehicles “Tiger”, “Typhoon” and armored personnel carriers, drove to the meeting point with the Turkish military a few tens of kilometers from the base to patrol the northeastern regions of Trans-Euphrates. The patrol along the entire route was accompanied by Russian Ka-52 and Mi-8 helicopters. In total, the convoy covered 50 km in 1.5 hours.
