Against the will of the government, Leonore Gewessler voted for an EU nature conservation law and thereby risked the coalition in Austria – why? An open discussion in Vienna.
In a city where a chandelier hangs in every apartment building hallway and even public toilets are decorated with golden doorknobs, Leonore Gewessler’s workplace seems almost inconspicuous. The sign with the somewhat cumbersome lettering “Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology” is attached to a facade that is reminiscent of a GDR administrative building from the 1980s. At least it is green.
