CDU board member Karin Prien wants to throw Hans-Georg Maaßen out of the party

Because he spreads “conspiracy-theoretical nonsense”, Schleswig-Holstein’s education minister Karin Prien calls for the ex-constitution protection president Hans-Georg Maaßen to be excluded from the party. Maassen responds promptly.

Schleswig-Holstein’s Minister of Education, Karin Prien, who is also a member of the CDU federal executive board, has called for the former President of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Hans-Georg Maaßen, to be excluded from the party. “In the past weeks and months, Mr. Maaßen has distanced himself further and further from the basic values in the CDU. His most recent statements about vaccinations are completely unacceptable,” said Prien on Monday. Several media had previously reported on it.

“Conspiracy Theoretical Nonsense”

On Sunday, Prien wrote in French on the short message service Twitter: “Ça suffit” (enough). “I will work towards an exclusion procedure in the next meeting of the federal executive committee, but I hope that the party friends in Thuringia will be active by then.”

Prien also said that a discussion could be held about mandatory vaccinations or the sense and nonsense of individual corona protective measures. “If a former top official and constitutional protection officer spreads such conspiracy-theoretical nonsense and refers to the anti-Semite Bhakdi, then we as the CDU can no longer tolerate it. Maaßen responded promptly on Twitter and in turn demanded the expulsion of Prien from the party.

According to the “editorial network Germany”, there had already been a dispute between Prien and Maaßen in September. Prien, at that time part of Armin Laschet’s “future team”, had said on ZDF about Maassen’s position as CDU candidate in Thuringia: “I have to accept that, even if of course I am not at all enthusiastic about it and wonder what Mr Maassen is actually doing in the CDU is looking for. ” In addition, she indirectly advertised for Maassen’s competitor Frank Ullrich from the SPD – who ultimately won the election.

Maaßen responded by calling for Prien to be kicked out of Laschet’s team because it was feared that “it will become an ongoing burden for all candidates”.

Investigation against Sucharit Bhakdi

The starting point for the renewed dispute between the CDU politicians was that Maaßen had distributed a video by Sucharit Bhakdi in which he called for the corona vaccinations to be stopped. Maaßen described the video as a moving appeal.

Schleswig-Holstein’s General Public Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the controversial microbiologist and bestselling author Bhakdi on charges of sedition. The reason for this are statements by Bhakdi in an interview, which were also disseminated in the short message service Twitter. In it, he accused Israel of coercion to vaccinate, and he stated that the current situation in the country was worse than in Germany at the time of National Socialism. “There is no people that learns better than they do,” he says of Jews. “But they have now learned and implemented the evil, and that is why Israel is now living bright – living hell.”

Bhakdi was Professor of Medical Microbiology and Hygiene in Mainz. Several of his theses on the Covid pandemic were classified as misleading or even incorrect by experts – for example from his former institute at the University of Mainz. His book “Corona False Alarm?” was one of the best-selling non-fiction books of 2020. It is an icon of radical opponents of the government’s Corona measures such as the lateral thinker movement.
