Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz wants to honor the national team and Julian Nagelsmann with a special gesture. According to information from RTL/ntv, Scholz called the national coach on Sunday and invited him and the team to the Chancellery. Nagelsmann immediately agreed. A specific date has not yet been set.
Scholz was in the stadium on Friday for the 1:2 defeat after extra time against Spain in Stuttgart. He watched all of the German team’s games live at the home European Championships, apart from the opening match against Scotland. On the opening day, he was at the G7 summit in southern Italy.
The German national team lost 2-1 to Spain on Friday and was eliminated from the European Championship. The tournament continues until the final on Sunday.
