Carlos Navas is the owner of “El Rocío”, a traditional Spanish bar in Santa Ponsa near Magaluf. The 44-year-old Spaniard came to the island from the mainland twelve years ago. He lives here with his wife and daughter. His guests are long-established Mallorcans and hotel employees. He took over the bar four years ago – in the middle of the pandemic, when tourists stayed away and most of the island’s residents were worried about their Future When thousands of people protested in Palma a few weeks ago against mass tourism on the island, he had no understanding for it. Nevertheless, he shares some of the protesters’ criticisms.
