This emerges from a government resolution that the Hungarian media reported on Saturday. In the decision published in the Official Journal and signed by Prime Minister Viktor Orban, it says: One will only approve an agreement where the EU Commission does not impose conditions on Hungary that are not imposed on other countries.
The government decision is related to the internationally criticized Hungarian law against sexual minorities. Because of the law, the EU Commission is delaying the disbursement of the money to which Hungary is entitled from the reconstruction fund, according to the official gazette. Another requirement of the resolution is that EU decision-makers should respect Article 14 of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights with a view to the anti-LGBTIQ law. This grants parents the right to ensure their children an upbringing that corresponds to the religious, ideological and educational convictions of the parents. The relevant international laws should be complied with.
The online portal “444.hu” recalled that the withholding of funds by the EU was not related to the law, but rather to the longstanding problems with the rule of law and corruption in Hungary.
