An assassination attempt is a nightmare for every person. For Donald Trump, the media master, the assassination attempt is, as cynical as that may sound, also a fantastic political gift. His reaction shows what a master of staging he is.
Is it inappropriate to write about the attempted assassination of a person, of an American ex-president, in the style of a TV review? Yes, it probably is. In the age of Donald J. Trump, however, it is the only option. This politician would never have been possible without TV images, and he thinks in TV images 24/7. For Trump, “live” is the highest form of reality, probably the only one.
To be clear: I too am glad that the assassin missed the former president; an assassination attempt is a nightmare for everyone. However, Trump and his team immediately understood that he was not only given his life – but TV images that even Trump could not have imagined in his wildest dreams.
