Shay Dashevsky wants to talk about Israel and the Middle East conflict. At the Free University of all places, where Jewish students no longer feel safe. Can that go well?
The Free University of Berlin is a place full of watermelons. You can find them here as jewelry in ear piercings, as pins on jackets, as patches on backpacks. The melon is a popular motif among pro-Palestinian forces: red flesh, black seeds, white and green peel, the same colors as the Palestinian flag. Many melons here are simply a symbol of solidarity.
But the bowler hat on the T-shirt of the young man who is walking towards the bicycle racks in front of the cafeteria is a symbol of hatred.
