Should Joe Biden still run for the Democrats? A Republican victory currently seems certain. There are currently three potential candidates in Biden’s party.
US President Joe Biden remains committed to becoming the Democratic presidential candidate. When asked whether his plans had changed in recent days, the 81-year-old answered with a decisive “no” in a television interview with NBC News.
Journalist Lester Holt also asked Biden who he listens to when it comes to this very personal decision. He replied: “Me.” He added: “I’m old, but only three years older than Trump.” His mental acuity is damn good. He has “accomplished more in three and a half years than any other president in a long, long time.”
When asked whether he would be open to another debate against Trump to correct the performance of the first one, possibly in the next few weeks, the Democrat replied: “I will debate him as we agreed – I will debate him in September.”
Biden criticism grows – “find another candidate”
The Belgian newspaper “De Tijd” comments on the presidential election campaign in the USA: “Joe Biden’s campaign must now inevitably shift gears. It is no longer so easy to portray Donald Trump as a fascist who wants to overthrow democracy, because Biden is now accused by radical Republicans of having caused the attack on Trump with his rhetoric on this matter. He will therefore have to move away a little from his central campaign message.
Meanwhile, the cameras are turning to Trump and the Republican convention in Milwaukee. As attention shifts, public pressure on Biden to abandon his presidential bid is easing and momentum for change among the Democrats is weakening.
What is worrying is that the need to change the candidate has now increased even more. The events of the past weekend are beyond the control of the Democratic campaign. And Trump’s instinctive reaction has turned a near-tragedy into political gold. But Biden’s age problems – which would be a more than legitimate argument for not electing someone to the highest office – could still be solved politically: find another candidate.”
