After Sebastian “El Hotzo” Hotz’s controversial tweet about the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, billionaire Elon Musk is getting involved in the debate – and helping a right-wing conspiracy theorist gain reach.
The tweet from comedian Sebastian Hotz, known as “El Hotzo,” is gaining more and more traction. Although the public broadcaster Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) has announced that it is parting ways with Hotz as presenter, Elon Musk has now spoken out. The billionaire and X owner writes on his own platform: “Someone who wishes death on the leading US presidential candidate and me is being paid by the German government to do so? @Chancellor, what is that?”
Musk has thus fallen for the new right-wing YouTuber Naomi Seibt, whose video he shared on X. This political corner is always talking and writing about “state broadcasting”, although the influence of politics on public broadcasting is limited. And the Chancellor certainly does not determine who presents which program on the ARD and ZDF channels. Musk is clearly not familiar with the German media landscape or the separation of powers – or, as a Trump supporter, is deliberately spreading the narrative of the German right.
Elon Musk vs. “El Hotzo”
“El Hotzo” is well-known in the comedian scene and has many followers on social media. Two controversial posts about the attempted assassination of Trump have since disappeared from X, but screenshots of the deleted entries are circulating online. In them, a connection was made between a last bus and Trump (“unfortunately, I just missed it”). On the other hand, according to the screenshots, it said: “I think it’s absolutely fantastic when fascists die.”

Elon Musk: His companies, his family – the richest person in the world in pictures
Hotz won an award at the Bavarian Cabaret Prize in 2023. In the same year he published his debut novel “Mindset”, which is also about arrogant men in the financial world. When asked, the publisher Kiepenheuer & Witsch said they would continue their collaboration with the satirist. But maybe Musk will also get in touch with the publisher.
