Security measures for Trump are said to have been increased due to threats from Iran. Information about a plot apparently led to increased vigilance.
According to consistent media reports, the Secret Service has increased security measures for former Republican President Donald Trump in recent weeks. This was due to threats from Iran, reported US broadcasters CNN and MSNBC, among others. The broadcasters cited anonymous sources familiar with the matter.
The American security authorities had received information about a plot and had increased security as a result, it was said. However, there was no evidence that the assassination attempt on Saturday, in which Trump was shot in the ear, was connected to this.
The agency declined to confirm or deny the reports. A spokesman said the Secret Service continually receives new information about threats and responds to them, but could not comment on specific threats.
