Judith L. soon suspected that something was wrong. Her brother Patrick Schöbel had sent a picture from Antalya shortly before his plane took off for St. Petersburg. Because of the sanctions, most flights to Russia now go via Turkey, and Schöbel also had to take the detour from Hamburg. But after the stopover, Judith L. heard nothing more from her brother. Even her own messages via WhatsApp no longer reached him. He also did not contact friends. His phone was apparently switched off. That was in mid-January.
