The group Last Generation has protested against the federal government’s climate policy with numerous actions in Berlin. There are repeated trials about this. One ends with a significant punishment.
After paint attacks and street blockades in Berlin, a climate activist has been sentenced to one year and four months in prison. The Tiergarten District Court found the member of the group Last Generation guilty of property damage, resistance to law enforcement officers and coercion, a court spokeswoman said. The “Bild” newspaper had previously reported. The verdict is not final.
According to the verdict, the 32-year-old took part in road blockades on five occasions between October 2022 and February 2023, sticking herself to roadways or so-called traffic sign bridges.
Involved in paint attacks
In addition, it took part in two paint attacks: On March 7, 2023, the climate group sprayed the listed facade of the Federal Ministry of Transport with orange paint in protest against the policies of Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP). The activists had rented a fire engine for this purpose. On April 22, 2023, there was an action on Kurfürstendamm in which luxury boutiques were smeared with orange paint.
According to the court, these were not the only crimes in which the 32-year-old was involved. She had already been sentenced to fines by courts in Hamburg and Berlin for other actions by the climate group, the spokeswoman stressed. These were not included in the overall sentence in the current trial.
