Ukraine War: Media: Bridgehead on the Dnipro costs Kiev many victims

For a long time, Ukraine tried to hold on to a bridgehead on the Dnipro in the southeast of the country. Now, after its alleged abandonment, the media are reporting enormous losses.

According to media reports, Ukraine has suffered heavy losses at a bridgehead on the Dnipro in the southeast of the country. In total, more than 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers are said to have died in the months-long battle for the small town of Krynki. 788 soldiers deployed there are missing, reported the Internet portal Slidstwo.Info, citing police sources. 262 soldiers were recovered dead in the same period. Only this morning had media reported that Ukraine had abandoned the bridgehead.

Krynki is a small town on the south bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson region. After the Ukrainians succeeded in driving the Russian troops out of Kherson and the adjacent territories north and west of the Dnipro during their counter-offensive, they tried to establish a bridgehead on the opposite bank. This was to be used later to accelerate the further advance in the southeast of Ukraine.

However, the fighting for the town of Krynki was criticized from the beginning due to its hopelessness. The troops stationed there could hardly be supplied with supplies across the river. Dead and injured people could only be transported away in very rare cases. The military leadership in Kiev had justified holding the positions by tying up Russian troops in the region.
