Only five days after the attempted assassination attempt on him, Donald Trump presented himself combative and determined at the Republican nominating convention in Milwaukee. “Make America Great Once Again” was the motto of the perfectly staged, multi-day campaign show. And while he played the mild statesman for all Americans, his designated Vice President JD Vance launched an attack: the media and their demonization of Trump were to blame for the shootings last weekend.
Hardly anything seems to be able to stop Donald Trump
As is customary in the USA, Vance and his wife are joined on stage by their (not entirely complete) family, as well as numerous celebrities from showbiz. Singer Kid Rock (“All summer long”) belts out his anthems to the Republicans and veteran wrestler Hulk Hogan, 70, effortlessly tears his T-shirt as he used to, as if to show: Look, even an old man still has indomitable strength!
Even Trump’s wife Melania honored him with her appearance after having disappeared into obscurity for months. Hardly anything or anyone seems to be able to stop the former president on his way back to the White House. Joe Biden will have recognized this too.
Elon Musk, who could become one of Trump’s biggest donors, was not in the hall. “I fully support President Trump and hope for his speedy recovery,” he wrote after the assassination attempt on X. As the Wall Street Journal reports, he plans to spend $45 million a month on the election campaign until November.
