A number of security agreements are already supporting Ukraine. Now President Zelenskyj is expecting further agreements of this kind.
In its efforts to gain international support and strengthen its security, Ukraine is preparing further security agreements with its supporters. Without mentioning any specific names of states, President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke of four new agreements in his evening video message.
“We will begin negotiations in the near future and need to prepare the documents for signing relatively quickly,” he said. This will involve defense support, finance and humanitarian cooperation. By then, almost 30 such agreements will have been concluded with partners.
The Ukrainian government has made it its mission to involve different countries – not just NATO countries. “But they are all equally willing to help us defend our common values.”
Ukraine’s most important security agreements to date include those with the EU, Germany, France, the USA and Poland. Ukraine signed its very first agreement with Great Britain at the beginning of the year.
Russian attacks target Kramatorsk
Russian troops have attempted to break through the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine in a series of attacks towards the city of Kramatorsk. During the course of the day, 22 attacks were registered on various sections of the forward front, the General Staff in Kyiv announced in its evening situation report.
The Russian attacks in this region were supported by eleven air strikes. The Russian advances were stopped, it was further reported. The information could not be independently confirmed.
According to its own account, Ukrainian battlefield reconnaissance discovered a tactical short-range air defense system “Tor” on the outskirts of Donetsk, the Unian agency reported. The system was destroyed shortly afterwards by an American Himars rocket artillery system. This information could not be independently verified either.
Russia reports Ukrainian drone attacks on Crimea
According to Russian authorities, Ukraine has once again attacked the Crimean peninsula with drones. The Russian army destroyed more than 15 drones over the sea off the port city of Sevastopol, wrote the Russian-appointed mayor Mikhail Razvozhaev on Telegram. Facilities in the city on Crimea, which has been annexed by Russia since 2014, were not damaged. Fragments of drones fell into a residential area and a truck was damaged. The situation is being monitored further.
Since the start of the large-scale invasion two years ago, Moscow has used Crimea as a supply and attack base against Ukraine. The number of victims and damage on Russian territory is disproportionate to the massive destruction and thousands of dead and injured in Ukraine.
Search for murderer of Ukrainian politician continues
Meanwhile, in western Ukraine, the manhunt for the murderer of the controversial politician Iryna Farion continued. She was buried in the famous Lychakivskyi Cemetery in the western Ukrainian metropolis of Lviv amid great public sympathy.
The police had previously released photos of the suspected murderer. They are looking for a thin man, around 20 years old, who is between 1.70 and 1.80 m tall. In the photos, the face of the suspected perpetrator is barely recognizable due to a floppy hat and sunglasses.
Farion was shot in the head in front of her house on Friday. From 2012 to 2014, the nationalist sat in parliament for the far-right Svoboda (Freedom) party. The linguist became known primarily for her harsh criticism of Russian-speaking Ukrainians, for whom she saw no place in the country.
