Islamic Center Hamburg: Iran summons German ambassador after raid

The ban on the Islamic Center Hamburg, also known as the Blue Mosque, is causing tension between Iran and Germany. Tehran has now even summoned the German ambassador.

After the Islamic Center Hamburg (IZH) was banned by the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Iran summoned the German ambassador. The ambassador was summoned to the Foreign Ministry in Tehran, the ministry announced on Wednesday in the online service X.

It accused the German authorities of “hostile action” which the “contradicts fundamental human rights principles”. “What happened in Germany today is a clear example of Islamophobia”the ministry further explained.

The Federal Ministry of the Interior had previously announced that it had banned the IZH and its nationwide sub-organizations “because it is an extremist Islamist organisation that pursues anti-constitutional goals”The IZH is suspected of supporting the pro-Iranian Lebanese Hezbollah militia and of having links to Iran.
