Climate protests: Operations at Frankfurt Airport largely run normally

Cancelled flights, long queues, full terminals: operations at the airport are suspended due to a disruption. In the evening, everything is running smoothly again – but the effects are still noticeable.

Operations at Frankfurt Airport are largely back to normal after the early morning interruption. Of around 1,400 flight movements, 270 flights were cancelled at Germany’s largest airport by early evening, a spokesman for the operator Fraport told the German Press Agency when asked.

“All tracks are open and operations are running smoothly,” said the spokesman. However, the effects are still noticeable. For example, the terminals are still much busier than usual – there are still queues at the rebooking desks in particular.

According to the federal police, several activists had entered the area early in the morning and had glued themselves to the security area. Operations were then suspended. Passengers were initially asked not to visit the airport for the time being and to check the status of their flights on the airlines’ websites in advance.
