Famous father: Wolfgang Bosbach’s daughter wants to join the Bundestag

Her father is an experienced federal politician who also became known nationwide as a talk show guest. Now his daughter Caroline wants to follow in his footsteps and move to Berlin next year.

The daughter of long-time CDU federal politician Wolfgang Bosbach, Caroline Bosbach (34), wants to run for the Bundestag. She wants to be the direct candidate for the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia, she writes on her website. Several media outlets reported on this.

The constituency on the outskirts of Cologne is a CDU stronghold. Her father (72) was a member of the Bundestag from 1994 to 2017, always via the direct mandate of the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis – in his last election in 2013 with 58.5 percent of the first votes. After that, the current CDU district association chairman Hermann-Josef Tebroke represented the Bergisches Land in the Bundestag, but he recently announced that he would not run again. Caroline Bosbach now wants to secure the vacant seat as a people’s representative.

According to her own statements, she studied business communication and then worked for a food discounter. Since 2021 she has been a book author (“Black on Green: What concerns the silent majority. For a new policy of the center”) and has worked for the energy company Stromkontor Rostock GmbH since 2023. In the CDU, she is vice-chair of the local association Herkenrath, a district of Bergisch Gladbach, and she is the federal chair of the CDU’s Young Economic Council.

Conservative profile

In her application letter for the candidacy as a direct candidate, which was published online, she advocates a “controlled and consistent immigration policy”. When it comes to the issue of integration, many municipalities are overwhelmed. She also says: “We need effective, situation-dependent border controls again, because we need to know who is allowed to come to our country – and who is not.”

She also calls for better economic policy to strengthen prosperity and social peace. She says that reducing bureaucracy is necessary. She is standing up for “a strong economy, a secure country and a good future”.

A short excursion into show business

The 34-year-old appeared on television in 2022 on the RTL show “Let’s Dance”, alongside a professional dancer. She didn’t get very far in the competition. After her brief foray onto the TV dance floor, she now wants to venture onto the political stage in the federal capital.

Christian Buchen, deputy district chairman of the CDU Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis, confirmed receipt of Caroline Bosbach’s application letter. Other CDU members can still register to run. The district party conference, at which the direct candidate will be nominated, is scheduled to take place on November 22nd.
