Assassination attempt during election campaign: Trump: Was injured by bullet – not by shrapnel

Two weeks ago, an assassin shot Donald Trump. Now the Republican is furious about a statement made by FBI Director Wray before a congressional committee.

Republican US presidential candidate Donald Trump is defending himself against suggestions that he was injured in the ear by anything other than a bullet during the assassination attempt. “No, unfortunately it was a bullet that hit my ear, and it hit hard. There was no glass or shrapnel,” the 78-year-old wrote on his online mouthpiece Truth Social. Former personal physician during Trump’s term in office, Ronny Jackson, said in a written statement: “There is absolutely no evidence that it was anything other than a bullet.”

Previously, FBI chief Christopher Wray had said in a hearing before the US Congress: “With regard to former President Trump, there are questions as to whether it was a bullet or shrapnel that hit his ear.” Republican representative Jim Jordan then said: “As far as I know, the first shot was the one that hit the President. (…) Or is that not correct?” Wray responded, among other things: “I don’t know.”

Trump’s former personal physician, who now serves as a Republican in Congress, continued in his letter: “I have reviewed President Trump’s medical records at Butler Memorial Hospital, where he was examined and treated for a ‘gunshot wound to the right ear.'” As he worked as an emergency physician in the U.S. Navy for more than 20 years, he has treated many gunshot wounds in his career. He therefore “fully agrees” with the initial assessment and treatment by the doctors at the hospital on the day of the assassination. The hospital’s records have not been released.

Trump posted a series of posts on Truth Social on the subject. He captioned one photo: “Perhaps FBI Director Christopher Wray will find that there is no shrapnel or glass flying through the ear, just a blood-stained bullet. It is all so damaging to the great people who work at the FBI.”

Almost two weeks ago, a gunman opened fire at Trump at a campaign rally in the town of Butler in the state of Pennsylvania. The perpetrator was killed by security forces. One visitor died and two others were wounded. Trump was injured in the right ear. The incident was an escalation in the already heated US election campaign.
