In order to contain the much more contagious omicron variant of the coronavirus, the federal and state governments have agreed on additional measures. The previous regulations had shown “good consequences” with regard to the infection process in Germany, said Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) in a press conference after the consultations with the Prime Minister on Friday, but it was clear: “Omikron will be with us for a long time employ “, one could not give the all-clear for the health system. Therefore further measures are “necessary”. The federal and state governments had joined forces for the first time this year to discuss how to proceed in the pandemic.

Decision: 2G-Plus in the gastro, defused quarantine rules

In restaurants, cafes and pubs, a 2G-Plus rule will apply nationwide in the future, regardless of the Corona numbers. According to the federal-state decision, vaccinated and convalescent people must present a daily negative corona test or a booster vaccination in order to gain access.

Scholz defended the approved nationwide application of the 2G-Plus rule in the catering trade. “This is a strict rule, but it is a necessary one that helps us make better progress and that we can control the infections better than we are now.”

The quarantine for contact persons and the isolation of infected people will also be shortened and simplified. The resolution stipulates that contact persons will be exempted from quarantine if they have a booster vaccination, have been newly vaccinated twice, have been vaccinated and have recovered, or have recently recovered. For everyone else, isolation or quarantine should generally end after ten days if they do not allow themselves to be tested beforehand.

Scholz: All 16 federal states for general vaccination

The federal and state governments broadly support a general compulsory corona vaccination in Germany. “All 16 heads of government of the federal states have declared that they are in favor of a general vaccination requirement,” said Chancellor Scholz. “I feel supported to the maximum.” The Bundestag will discuss this soon. It would be good if at the end of the debate there was a general compulsory vaccination.

Scholz said the vaccination campaign had made progress. But it still applies: “The vaccination rate in Germany is still not very high.” The Chancellor again called for vaccinations and reiterated “the ambitious goal” of a further 30 million vaccinations by the end of January. “The best protection against Omikron is a booster vaccination.” He also referred to the further applicable requirements for mask wear and access only for vaccinated, convalescent and tested people (3G), for example in public transport. It remains important to reduce contacts.

The federal and state governments reaffirmed the current contact restrictions, but did not tighten them. So it remains that private gatherings of vaccinated and convalescent with a maximum of 10 people are allowed. For people who have not been vaccinated and who have not recovered, only members of their own household and a maximum of two people from another household are allowed to meet. Children up to the age of 14 are excluded.

Saxony-Anhalt is initially sticking to its currently applicable Corona measures and will not additionally rely on tests for recovered and vaccinated people in the catering trade. In Saxony-Anhalt, unlike in other federal states, there is almost only the delta variant of the corona virus, which is why new measures are initially not necessary, said Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff (CDU) in Magdeburg. “It is our job to find differentiated solutions.” Everyone can find their own timing.
