As is well known, he is not lacking in self-confidence, now he is also showing prophetic gifts: FDP leader Lindner thinks the general election is over. He sees his party and himself as part of the next government.
FDP leader Christian Lindner believes the general election has been decided two months before the election date. “In my eyes, as I expected, it has already been clarified who will move into the Chancellery,” he said on Sunday in the ARD’s summer interview. The contract to form a government will almost certainly go to the CDU and its candidate for Chancellor Armin Laschet.
The question is who will then take on important roles and become finance minister, for example. “I would be ready to take on that – with respect for the debt brake, with the clear statement that taxes should not be increased in the highest tax country if we want jobs and private investments,” said Lindner. It is an important question whether a Robert Habeck of the Greens will become federal finance minister or he, according to the FDP leader.
Lindner for Jamaica instead of traffic lights
In polls for the federal election, the Union is currently well ahead of the Greens and the SPD. However, surveys only reflect the opinion at the time of the survey and are not predictions of the outcome of the election.
As things stand, Lindner sees no real chance for a traffic light coalition made up of the Greens, the SPD and the FDP. “I do not see that there are arithmetically or in terms of political content sufficient similarities for a traffic light model,” he said. “I lack the imagination which content-related offer Annalena Baerbock could make to the FDP that would be more attractive than the offers that Ms. Merkel made four years ago.”
“Don’t leave black-green alone”
According to Lindner, after the election the question will be whether there will be black-green or a Jamaica coalition together with the FDP. He would then be for Jamaica. “If you want clear conditions in Germany, you mustn’t leave black and green alone.” He is fighting to ensure that there is no black-green federal government.
If the Liberals remain in the opposition after the election, Lindner still wants to continue to lead the party. The FDP is about to set a new membership record, said Lindner. He did not want to disappoint these people and this trust personally.
