Because of the Ukrainian counterattack in the Russian region of Kursk, a state of emergency has been declared. The Ministry of Defense in Moscow is now describing the situation from its perspective.
According to the Defense Ministry in Moscow, the Russian armed forces are continuing to fight against an advance by Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region. The authorities have upgraded the state of emergency already in place in the Russian border region with Ukraine to a national emergency.
Ukrainian attempts to penetrate deep into the Kursk region were repelled with aircraft and artillery, the Moscow military report said. Since the beginning of the Ukrainian attack on Tuesday, Kiev’s troops have lost up to 945 soldiers and 102 pieces of armored equipment, including 12 tanks. Western military equipment was also mentioned. About five US Stryker armored personnel carriers were destroyed.
The bulletin made no mention of German technology. The Russian military data cannot be independently verified. According to the ministry, there were battles in several settlements in the Kursk region, including in the western part of the city of Sudzha. In 24 hours alone, the Ukrainian armed forces lost 280 men and 27 units of technology. There were no official figures on the losses on the Russian side, but military bloggers confirmed the deaths of many soldiers.
Ministry: Destruction of Ukrainian troops continues
According to the ministry, Russia also carried out air and missile strikes on the neighboring Ukrainian region of Sumy. “The operation to destroy the groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine continues,” the agency said.
In Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky said in view of the advance in the Kursk region that Russia should now feel the war itself. However, Kiev has not yet commented on the details of the attack. Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian war of aggression for almost two and a half years and has repeatedly attacked its neighbouring country with drones and missiles in the course of its defensive struggle. A large ground operation by regular troops such as the one currently taking place in Kursk is taking place for the first time.
