He has no chance of winning the election. However, an offer to Kamala Harris should apparently at least secure US presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. a cabinet post.
The independent candidate for the US presidential election, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., is said to be interested in a position in Kamala Harris’ cabinet if the Democratic candidate wins the race for the White House. Kennedy asked for a meeting with Harris last week to discuss the possibility of working in her government, perhaps as cabinet secretary, reports the Washington Post, citing representatives of his campaign team. In return, the 70-year-old is willing to support the vice president and call on his supporters to vote for Harris.
However, Harris and her advisers have so far neither responded with an offer of a meeting nor shown any interest in Kennedy’s proposal, the newspaper writes, citing “people familiar with the talks” as a source.
Kennedy also negotiated with Trump
Just last month, Kennedy met with Republican candidate Donald Trump to discuss a possible role in his administration should the former president regain office on November 5. The two men had a “long conversation” in which they also “discussed a future role for Bobby in the government and what that role might look like,” the US news site “Mediaite” quoted a Kennedy campaign insider as saying at the time. However, Trump was unable to convince Kennedy to drop out of the election campaign and support him.
Kennedy has no chance of becoming US President himself as an independent candidate – no third candidate has made it into the Oval Office in 170 years. However, the son of US Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, who was assassinated in June 1968, has had a surprisingly successful election campaign and could possibly steal crucial votes from Harris or Trump given the close race. According to a survey by the Pew Research Center on Wednesday, seven percent of respondents currently support Kennedy, while Harris and Trump are neck and neck with 46 and 45 percent respectively.
