Tim Walz: His wife Gwen Walz talks about fertility treatment

She didn’t get pregnant for years: The wife of vice-candidate Tim Walz talks about her experiences with fertility treatments and wants to encourage families.

Tim Walz is currently gaining a lot of support as a candidate for the post of Vice President of the USA. The governor of Minnesota always manages to stir the emotions of Americans with personal anecdotes. Now his wife Gwen Walz has spoken in detail for the first time about a topic that he mentioned in passing during the election campaign: It is about the couple’s desire to have children, which remained unfulfilled for a long time.

“Like millions of families across the country, Tim and I have been trying for years to start a family through fertility treatment,” said the 58-year-old. She and Tim Walz have been married for 30 years and have two children together. Their daughter Hope was born in January 2001, their son Gus in October 2006. But the journey to this point was incredibly personal and difficult.

Tim Walz and his wife kept their torment to themselves

“Like so many who experience this challenge, we kept it to ourselves at the time – and didn’t even share the details with our wonderful closest family.” The only person who knew exactly what the couple was going through was a neighbor. “She was a nurse and helped me with the injections I needed for the insemination process. I would always rush home from school and she would give me the injections so that we stayed on schedule,” the former teacher describes her everyday life at the time.

She is now talking about “this fear, the torment and the despair that attacks your soul” in order to comfort other families with her story. The decision to be so open was made after artificial insemination in Alabama may soon fall under the new abortion ban and access to it will be restricted.

“When and whether to start a family is a fundamental freedom in this country. The fact that they are attacking families’ ability to have children reveals the true face of Republicans and shows how far they would go to restrict freedom,” said Tim Walz.
