There are no plans for new contacts between the presidents of the Russian Federation and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden. This was announced to TASS on January 10 by the press secretary of the Russian leader Dmitry Peskov.
“There are no plans for the highest level yet,” a Kremlin spokesman said.
On December 30, the presidents held telephone conversations. The conversation lasted 50 minutes. During the conversation, Putin stressed that the result of the joint work of Moscow, Washington and NATO should be firm guarantees that the alliance will not move further east.
On December 7, an online conversation between the two leaders took place, which lasted two hours. The Kremlin called the talks frank and businesslike. It was clarified that the presidents discussed the implementation of the results of the Russian-American summit held in Geneva in June, and also agreed to continue the dialogue between the countries.
In addition, during the conversation, the heads of state discussed the situation in Ukraine, NATO’s eastward expansion, strategic stability and the issue of bilateral relations.
Earlier, on December 17, the Russian Foreign Ministry published draft agreements between Russia and the United States and NATO on security guarantees. It follows from the documents that the alliance should refuse to conduct any military activity on the territory of Ukraine and other states of Eastern Europe, Transcaucasia and Central Asia. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov later explained that on the basis of Russia’s proposals on security guarantees in the future, agreements on arms control could be reached.
