Due to persistently high temperatures, Italian teachers are pushing for an extension of the summer holidays. Many parents find the demand anything but reasonable.
For Italian schoolchildren whose summer holidays are coming to an end, it sounds like a dream: teachers’ associations in the country are vehemently demanding that the school holidays be extended until October. But students already have the holidays from mid-June to mid-September, longer than in any other country in Europe. Using the argument of the extreme heat, teachers now want to extend the holidays to 16 weeks. For parents, that would be a nightmare. They angrily ask how they will look after their children for that long. Angry families are now arguing with teachers about when the new school year should start.
