The Indian head of government visited Kyiv and gave the Ukrainian president a warm hug. Now, however, Zelenskyj is critical of India’s stance in the Ukraine war.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been critical of India’s business dealings with Russia. Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin is using the money from the sale of oil and gas to finance his war of aggression against Ukraine, Zelensky said in a conversation with Indian journalists. “He is stealing his people’s billions,” Zelensky said of Putin. The Russian people are becoming poorer, but do not notice this because Putin controls both the media and all social networks.
At the same time, Zelensky suggested that the next Ukraine peace summit could possibly be held in India. Kiev is currently negotiating with Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey. India took part in the first peace summit in Switzerland in June, but did not sign the final document. The conference is intended to initiate a peace process in which Russia will one day also be included.
Zelensky went on to say that Putin’s war economy is financed by billions of dollars coming from India, China and Arab states. But Kiev cannot put pressure on New Delhi. “You are an independent country, this is your government,” he told Indian reporters. Nevertheless, he asked them to “think about” what could be done to stop the flow of money that strengthens the Russian armed forces.
The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Kiev just a few days ago and offered his help to end the war. However, he did not make any concrete proposals. Nevertheless, the visit represented a rapprochement after Ukraine was suspicious due to India’s close relationship with Russia. However, Kiev hopes for support from India because it is an important voice in world politics.
