Two days after the attack, the right-wing scene called for a demonstration. Hundreds of counter-demonstrators stood in their way – in the end, the right-wingers had to be led out of the city center.
Two days after the deadly attack on a city festival, demonstrators from the right and left camps met in Solingen on Sunday evening. The AfD’s youth organization, the Junge Alternative, had called for a demonstration under the slogan “Remigration saves lives”. A broad alliance of left-wing groups responded with a counter-demonstration.

When the first left-wing demonstrators reached the site of the right-wing rally after ten minutes, the two groups almost clashed. Just ten meters from the right-wing rally, left-wing demonstrators were chanting, separated only by a police cordon, while the right-wingers continued to try to hold their rally.
However, they could hardly be heard anymore, while the chant “Nazis out. All together against fascism” echoed across the square. A right-winger knocked over the memorial candles of the right-wing demonstration while running backwards and broke several of the glasses.
Left-wing demonstrators block the routes out of the city center
After the AfD demonstration had broken up, the left-wing demonstrators initially managed to block all routes out of the city center. They had to wait in a street surrounded by police and counter-demonstrators. “We’ll keep them in the alley,” was the initial instruction that the police exchanged among themselves.
The police eventually escorted the right-wing demonstrators to a parking garage in the city, but individual attempts by counter-demonstrators to get to the escort failed. “There were no special incidents,” police spokesman Kim Freigang told the star.
