Trial: Corona mask case – verdict against judge in November

A Weimar judge is convicted of perverting the course of justice following a sensational ruling on compulsory mask wearing in schools. The case ends up before the Federal Court of Justice and will be decided in November.

The Federal Court of Justice (BGH) in Karlsruhe will announce the verdict in the appeal proceedings against a Weimar judge who was convicted of perverting the course of justice following a ruling on the obligation to wear corona masks on November 20 (case number: 2 StR 54/24). The man was accused of having made his decision at the time in a biased and not neutral manner.

He had wanted to overturn the mask requirement at two schools in Weimar. His decision had been overturned by other courts due to lack of jurisdiction. However, the judge was later brought to court for perverting the course of justice and was sentenced to two years’ probation by the Erfurt Regional Court in August 2023. Both the public prosecutor and the defense appealed against this decision.
