AfD top candidate Björn Höcke canceled his participation in a TV round with his opponents – for health reasons. He plans to attend an election campaign event one day later.
One day after canceling a TV round, Thuringia’s AfD top candidate Björn Höcke will make an election campaign appearance today, according to party sources. He will keep his appointments as planned, said Thuringia AfD press spokesman Torben Braga. Of these appointments, a campaign appearance in Nordhausen in the afternoon will be made public.
On Wednesday, Höcke cancelled his participation in a discussion round hosted by ntv and Antenne Thüringen. His spokespersons cited health problems as the reason for this. Thuringia’s AfD co-leader Stefan Möller took part in the round instead and said: “I only found out that he couldn’t sleep last night.” He did not know the exact reason for this, and he was not Höcke’s family doctor. Braga had already announced before the broadcast that Höcke would have recovered by Thursday. According to ntv, Höcke had already cancelled his participation on Monday, confirmed again on Tuesday and then finally cancelled on Wednesday morning.
Höcke appeared to still be active on his X-account on Wednesday evening. Among other things, he posted an announcement there for a “Simson parade” through his constituency on Friday. Simson is a GDR moped manufacturer. The picture posted by Höcke shows him without a helmet on one of these mopeds. The Thuringian CDU shared the post and wrote: “The miraculous healing of Björn H. He is mocking the voters.” Höcke is running as a direct candidate in East Thuringia, although he has lived in Eichsfeld, in the northwest of Thuringia, for many years. Eichsfeld is considered a CDU stronghold.
