Henriette Reker was herself the victim of a knife attack and barely survived. Cologne’s mayor speaks in star about integration, deportation, security – and the lessons from Solingen.
Ms. Reker, in 2015 a neo-Nazi stabbed you in the neck and you barely survived. Last week an attacker, probably a Syrian refugee, killed three people in Solingen by stabbing him in the neck. What was going through your mind?
Whenever knife attacks result in the death of someone, I am particularly affected. What a degradation of life. It is still incredibly upsetting to me.
Where did you hear about it?
I just spoke to the organizers of the “Stunksitzung” on the phone about the upcoming carnival. It was a shock. I know Solingen’s mayor Tim Kurzbach well. I feel so sorry for him. I can’t really support him and can only wish him energy and strength.
