The Left and the Greens could fail to clear the five percent hurdle in Saxony – but could still enter the state parliament due to a special rule. A fight for survival has begun.
Nam Duy Nguyens is only 28 years old, but his campaign strategy is much older: he knocks on as many doors in his constituency as possible. Door-to-door campaigning to the extreme, especially in the prefabricated buildings in the southeast and east of Leipzig. Many of those who open the door to him have not spoken to a politician for a long time, perhaps never even. The Left Party’s direct candidate calls them “our people.”
According to his own statements, Nguyen and his supporters have already rung doorbells at almost 45,000 places. He is increasingly confident that he can win the direct mandate here, in the center of Leipzig – although his party has never managed to do so before. But this time it could save the Left from being thrown out of the state parliament.
