Russian-Ukrainian war: Ukrainian authorities report deaths in the Donetsk and Kharkiv area

Once again, several people have died in Russian shelling in eastern Ukraine. The authorities are once again calling for evacuations, particularly in the Donetsk area.

According to Ukrainian sources, at least five people were killed by Russian shelling in the town of Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region, which is largely controlled by Moscow’s troops. “The Russians fired early in the morning, and shells hit a private house and a multi-story house,” said the Ukrainian head of the administration of the contested Donetsk region, Vadym Filashkin, on Telegram. The men killed were between the ages of 24 and 38.

“Chasiv Yar is a city where normal life has not been possible for more than two years. Don’t make yourself a Russian target! Get to safety!” said Filashkin. In view of the Russian troop advance in the Donetsk region, he recently ordered evacuations in dozens of towns. The Pokrovsk region is particularly hotly contested, and banks there will also be closed from this Monday.

The Russian Defense Ministry had previously reported a further advance in the Donetsk region. The village of Kirove had been captured there, it said. The information cannot be independently verified. But Ukrainian military observers had also confirmed that Russian troops had again gained territory in the region.

More shelling and mourning in Kharkiv

Authorities also reported new Russian shelling in the Kharkiv region. At least two civilians died in the village of Cherkaska Losova, military governor Oleh Synjehubov said on Telegram. There were also eight injured. Previously, a heavy Russian air strike on a high-rise building in Kharkiv left at least 7 dead and 97 injured. Synjehubov ordered flags to be flown at half-mast.

For more than two and a half years, Ukraine has been fighting back against the Russian war of aggression with Western help. In its defensive struggle, it has recently massively increased attacks on Russian regions in order to destroy military supplies there.

Around 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers marched into the Kursk region at the beginning of August. They have dozens of towns and, according to the military leadership in Kiev, more than 1,000 square kilometers of area under their control. According to Russian sources, heavy fighting is continuing. The situation in the Kursk region is extremely tense overall, but there are no significant shifts in power, said Russian military bloggers.
