Single parents and single people receive 563 euros per month in citizen’s allowance. After a recent, quite large increase, they will have to make do with the same amount next year.

Next year, there will be no increase in income for all recipients of the citizen’s allowance. This is stated in a draft bill from the Federal Ministry of Labour, which RTL/ntv and the star is present.

There will be no increase in the standard rates for recipients of citizen’s allowance in 2025; they will remain at the 2024 level. For single parents and single people, this is currently 563 euros per month. The calculation of citizen’s allowance is regulated by law and takes price increases into account, among other things.

Citizens’ allowance increase under criticism

In recent months, there has been some harsh criticism of the social benefit, particularly from the Union, which complained about a lack of work incentives.

The adjustment mechanism recently led to a comparatively high increase in the citizen’s allowance of twelve percent, as both the price and wage increases from 2023 and the price increases assumed for 2024 were taken into account. Single citizen’s allowance recipients have since received 61 euros more per month. Price increases are currently declining, so a zero increase next year has been expected for some time.

The citizen’s allowance also regularly causes discussions in the traffic light coalition. After a long-running dispute over tougher sanctions for so-called total objectors, the FDP, for example, had . on the current standard rates. The SPD, which also wanted to leave the Hartz IV years behind with the social reform, rejected the demand as “completely half-baked”.
