Gaza War: Opposition leader: Ending the Gaza War in Israel’s interest

Jair Lapid is calling for a change of government in Israel. The current Israeli leadership does not want peace, complains the opposition leader.

Israeli opposition leader Jair Lapid has spoken out in favor of a peaceful solution to the Gaza war. “Ending the war is in Israel’s interest,” Lapid wrote on Platform X. He called for an agreement with Hamas that would also include the release of the hostages still being held in the Gaza Strip.

Israel’s opposition leader also called for a change in leadership. “As long as this government exists, the war will continue.” They do not want peace, complained Lapid. Israel’s right-wing extremist police minister Itamar Ben-Gvir had previously announced that he was working to end the indirect negotiations with Hamas about a ceasefire in the Gaza war. The country should not negotiate with murderers, he demanded.

At the weekend, the army announced the discovery of six Israeli hostages. According to media reports, the Israeli Health Ministry said the hostages had been shot at close range about 48 to 72 hours before the autopsy.

Hundreds of thousands then demanded a deal to secure the release of the remaining abductees in the Gaza Strip. Further demonstrations were planned for Wednesday. Relatives of the hostages accuse the government of sabotaging an agreement.
