The CDU emerged as the strongest force in the election for the Saxon state parliament, with the AfD coming in second ahead of the Sahra Wagenknecht coalition. The SPD came in fourth place by a wide margin, followed by the Greens, the Left Party and finally the Free Voters, who secured a direct mandate.
Saxony’s CDU needs the BSW
Nobody wants to form a coalition with the AfD. The CDU needs either the SPD or the Greens, but above all the BSW, to achieve a majority. Some in the CDU, however, are resisting this, against Die Linke of course, but increasingly also against Sahra Wagenknecht’s team.
So someone will have to take action if the country is not to remain completely without a government or if the population is not to be asked to go to the polls again.
