In Israel, two best friends are fighting for reconciliation using unusual methods: harsh rap lines and insults. The Palestinian-Jewish duo is called “Dugri”. On October 7, it almost broke up.
They discuss the Middle East conflict with students, organize joint parties for Palestinians and Jewish Israelis, and hurl violent insults at each other. Uriya Rosenman and Sameh Zakout founded the “Dugri” initiative. The word means “plain language” in Arabic and is also used in Hebrew.
With a rap song of the same name, Rosenman (34) and Zakout (45) landed a rap hit three years ago in IsraelIn it, they quote the bad things the two ethnic groups think of each other. Since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7th and the war in Gaza, the song has gone viral again. The two are best friends, despite everything.
